Recipes for a Perfect Marriage A wonderful portrait of marriage, love and relationships. "They say there is no such thing as a perfect marriage, but of course there is. A perfect marriage is where two people live together for most of their lives until death separates them''. What there is no such thing as is an easy marriage. And when it comes to love, people have somehow come around to equating love with ease". New York food writer Tressa returns from honeymoon worried that she has married her impossibly handsome new husband Dan out of late-thirties panic instead of love. In 1930s Ireland, her grandmother, Bernadine, is married off to the local schoolteacher after her family are unable to raise a dowry for her to marry her true love, Michael. During the first year of her marriage, Tressa distracts herself from her stay-or-go dilemma by working on her grandmothers recipes, searching for solace and answers through their preparation. Through the stories of these two women Recipes for a Perfect Marriage challenges the modern ideal of romantic love as a given and ponders whether true love can really be learned. "This story is written with so much heart, its beat is palpable in every word on every page". Cecelia Ahern, author of P.S., I LOVE YOU
I started Recipes for a Perfect Marriage with a desire to write about the challenges of marital love; starting with some universal questions. How do you know if you are truly in love and if it will last? What is the relevance of marriage in todays fast-moving consumer-driven society? What are the personal/spiritual pay-offs in making a life-times commitment to one person? How feasible is it to promise to love one person for the rest of your life? As I traveled the journey of their marriages with them, my characters Tressa and Bernadine answered most of these questions for me. I personally gained greater clarity about what marriage means to me through the process of writing this book and a number of readers have been kind enough to say that in reading this novel they gained emotional and spiritual insights which they have been able to use in the own lives, single and married. That positive feedback has become what Recipes is about for me professionally and personally; proof that when you risk and open your heart good things will usually happen. Warmest Best Wishes - Kate.

"Many books are enjoyed yet end up on the shelves of the nearest second-hand bookshop. This book is one to keep. Anyone who reads it will return to it, time and time, again, either for the story or to seek out one of the many old recipes- which include one for a particularly delicious porter cake".
